In writing a novel, the progress of the character is quite important so that the readers feel affection for the protagonist and wish for the villain to be destroyed. Principal characters should be presented to develop in power and importance throughout the novel.
At the start, authors that write novels depict the present situation in life of the character. The protagonist would be portrayed by its appearance, emotional situation and its other qualities. Disputes or struggle that the protagonist should fight against are then drawn around in order that the readers could recognize the dilemma of the character. Whether or not the main character could overcome these difficulties, and become stronger or wiser all through the trial, is at times the heart of a thrilling novel.
Remember, characters in your story are very important. They have to be consistent and realistic. Readers want characters that they can relate to. Try to make them interesting and different from each other. Picture these characters in a real world. You should be as detailed as possible to let the readers get some understanding on what type of people they are.
